“I got 99 problems and things aren’t one.” – TJ Thomas
TJ said this quote for today’s post since it’s Day 99 and he secretly really wanted me to use his original quote. Anyway, It’s Day 99 which means we are one day shy of our 100 day mark! Can’t believe it’s been that long already… This past 99 days we definitely had our share of problems/troubles. The problems we face in our lives can change you and materialistic items play a big role in this. A lot of people my age are around the time when couples start getting engaged/married, having kids, and buying houses. A lot of the other people in that age category start comparing themselves to their peers. They start looking at the other couples and being jealous or envious of where they are at in their lives. So what do you do? You start looking at houses that are double your budget and eagerly say yes just to fit in with everyone else. Soon after, you can’t keep up with the mortgage and/or utility bills and this causes a big problem in your life. Materialistic items really do have an impact on the problems in our lives. That doesn’t mean that all problems are related to possessions/items. However, people do start to look at what other’s have and want to buy things that are out of their budget to keep up. Don’t get caught up in this ideal. Remember that you are in charge of your journey and it’ll never be alike another’s. Just appreciate where your individual journey takes you in life and don’t compare.
Possessing items is not the most important thing in your life. When you start possessing, you start gaining more problems. Problems such as finances and relationship strains. These are two big issues that often arise out of obsessing over material possessions. The house example is related to both problems; finances and relationship strain. It’s so easy to get caught up in the materialistic world, but you’ll certainly end up with bigger problems than living without the item you were willing to stretch yourself for. Maintaining the minimalistic lifestyle helps prevent thoughts like this from crossing your mind. Before you make a big purchase ask yourself, “Am I buying this for the right reasons?”
Item 099 of 360+
Today’s item is another video game which TJ plans to sell. This game is Borderlands 2 and he no longer plays with it. Simple, then it’s time to get rid of it.
