Day 81 – Loss and Gain

Experiencing a loss of a loved one is never easy. When you are going through grief and remembering a loved one, your outlook changes on life. The other day I just wrote a post about stopping to take a look and appreciate the moment. Well, turns out the same day I wrote the post, I experienced loss myself. That same day when I was talking about stopping to enjoy the moments and with the quote being that you don’t realize those moments would turnout to mean so much, I found out my brother had passed. When you lose someone special, you’re left appreciating those moments and the family you have by your side to help you get through these times. You aren’t thinking about things or if they had a fancy car or house, you just care about your loved one. When you are left with their material possessions you realize all the stuff that has accumulated and that it doesn’t hold any significance to you any longer without the person who originally possessed these items. 

Loss is incredibly overwhelming though and hits people differently. Some people want to hold onto everything from a deceased loved one and think that is what gives you comfort, but those items hold no real significance besides maybe a few trinkets that had memories associated with them. Hoarding items won’t bring your loved ones back or make you feel better. Going through a deceased loved one’s items is never easy, but when it comes to the time you have to start clearing things out, think about what’s really important. I know that I’ll think of this going forward and continue to work it into my own life so I don’t leave too much behind because in the end, we’re all just people and things aren’t what make us special. It’s the important people in your life that makes your life special and worth living. Be happy and stay humble my friends.
