“The biggest communication problem is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply.” – Steven R. Covey
Why do you listen? What a peculiar question that is but the answer is quite important. I think this is a big problem in schooling. This has always been a complaint of mine. There is such an emphasis on tests that it benefits a student in the present to being good at knowing the correct response vs. understanding a broader subject. The same can be applied to listening. When a question is posed, the quickest person to answer may have just been listening to reply. Where, others may be taking sometime to dig deeper and actually try to understand the question. I am guilty of answering to quick but just like many things this year, I have been trying to improve on it. It makes me think of a great quote I heard, “why are y’all always in a rush?” It’s time to slow down, listen well, understand more things, learn and live better. If there was one thing I could improve on in the coming year it would be just slowing down and enjoying all the little moments as much as possible. Let us know why you listen in the comments.

Today’s item is a Claws and Paws sweatshirt TJ had from the best zoo ever that he worked at. It’s old and no longer worn so time to let go of it.
