“We are driven by five genetic needs: survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun.” – William Glasser
“A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of sheep.” -Vernon Howard
There really aren’t many needs in life. I think a lot of us are blind of this fact because it’s hard to control the urge of looking at how others are doing. We need a place to live, food and sleep. Is that everything I want? No, of course not, but it’s everything a person needs. But think about this. If you are reading this and you have a place to live, a place to eat and sleep and a job to help you progress in life, things really aren’t so bad. So what makes life hard? It’s all about comparison. There will always be someone “ahead” of you or having a big life event. The best advice I can give is to be happy for them but do not get envious. Instead, think about those that are less fortunate than you. You look at the news and can see plenty examples of this. I like to consider myself lucky that my basic needs are met. I of course have my wants to, but let’s save that for tomorrow. What’s your thoughts on basic needs in life?
