“Burnout is nature’s way of telling you, you’ve been going through the motions your soul has departed; you’re a zombie, a member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker. False optimism is like administrating stimulants to an exhausted nervous system.” – Sam Keen
How have you been doing in bigger social settings? Have you noticed being a little bit more worn out from basic events from going out or going to work? It’s something experts are calling burnout or COVID fatigue. Basically, it’s extra mental fatigue from the past year of not really getting out much. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t notice it a little bit. When something like this happens to me, I get into solution mode because I want to try to help myself. I noticed that one of the biggest differences from months ago was the amount of sleep I was getting. I was working from home everyday and with little to do after work, I was getting a lot of sleep. When I notice some fatigues from the day, I try to get more rest that night and it has seemed to be helping.
The other thing I noticed was the loss of free time. I’m very good at keeping myself occupied as an only child. In fact, one of the outcomes of COVID was this blog which has been great. Ever since things have gone closer to “normal” I find us in a rush to do the post. It’s why they have been a little shorter. This lack of free time is hard to cope with and it doesn’t help with the burnout. This is why I chalk my burnout to a mixture of less sleep and less play. The best way for me to combat it is to prepare on the weekends, plan out my weeks to a certain extent and just ensure that there is a good balance. My last tip is to make sure you always take some time to yourself, whether it’s reading a book, meditating or sitting while thinking about nothing for a few minutes. If you experienced burnout in your life or from COVID, how have you helped yourself refresh?

Today’s item is a cosmetic bag I had taking up space in my vanity drawer. Us women accumulate so many of these and we don’t even realize!
