May the fourth be with you to all you Star Wars fans. May there only be two questions to answer today though because four is two too many on this TWOsday. Since I already brought up Star Wars with their famous movies, shows, and comics, I figured we could ask ourselves some questions in relation to cinema and how it has affected our lives for better or for worse. For me, it definitely feels like it has brought plenty of joy with not much downside other than when I catch myself binging. Well, get your popcorn ready and let’s dive in.
Q1. What movie or show can you not live without?
Easy answer for me, it is without a doubt The Princess Bride. My Dad told me about it when I was a kid and I felt like the grandson in the beginning when he said, “Is this a kissing book?”, except a movie of course. When I finally sat down and watched it, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a very quotable movie with a funny and entertaining story that, in my opinion, is ageless. My dad and I bonded over it and still do with random quotes such as “you don’t by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?” I rarely meet people my age that have seen the movie but when I do I get very excited. One of those people happened to be Amalia and well, I guess the rest is history. Since it is May, we have to keep with the running theme of mentioning the wedding of course! This movie is the theme to our wedding and there are small details that couldn’t possibly be missed by a true fan at the wedding but I don’t want to spoil anything. Amalia and I are very excited to also meet Westley himself, the main character played by Cary Elwes at the end of the year for an event where we will be watching the movie, hearing extra things about the cast/show, and doing a meet and greet with Cary with a book signing as well! This movie has without a doubt changed my life and will always be my favorite because of the people I enjoy it with.
P.S. – My groomsmen and I will be watching it in the movie theater of our lake house during wedding weekend!
Q2. What is a memorable moment in a movie or TV show that you will never forget?
This is a fun question as there are plenty of memorable moments. To start with movies, the first thing that comes to mind is Happy Gilmore beating Shooter McGavin in the Tour Championship. When I was a kid and still today, I loved Adam Sandler and Will Smith movies. So another moment that comes to mind is Will Smith joining the Men In Black. More recently, I have been into Marvel movies. I have watched them chronologically two times and have seen all the movies three times or more. My favorite moments are the obvious iconic moments in New York (Avengers) and the final scene of End Game. Now to get a little untraditional, there are some moments that are a little more unique. My last movie moment to mention from Avengers has to be the beginning scenes of both Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 and Thor Ragnarok. The way they did music mash ups and cool start scenes with great action was unforgettable. Last but not least, Baby Driver’s getaway car chases with music was so cool too. This movie is so unique to me and I always want to go back and watch it again.
As far as shows go, there are just two moments I wanted to mention. When I was a teenager, I thought Andy Samberg was hilarious and still do. The digital shorts from SNL were too funny. I can happily say I saw most of them live as I would make sure to have my parents tell me when they would come on because I was of course playing video games (Call of Duty or Skyrim). The best ones live were D**k in a Box and The Shooting AKA Dear Sister. I still find myself going back to watch them again. Bo Burnham’s shows are unforgettable. His comedy in song/poem/pun form are just hilarious to me. I grew up watching him on YouTube and thought he was crazy for leaving YouTube to do comedy. I was mistaken, he definitely did well with Netflix and I can’t wait for his new special now! Last but not least, I have to mention Dean and Sam Winchester of course, the show Supernatural was great (hence all the POP figurines). It’s only flaw was how many episodes there were but it was a joy to watch most of them. My favorite moment was when God sang the song Fare Thee Well. I listened to that scene again today and it actually sparked my idea for this post, so it definitely deserved a shoutout. Then of course, the scene where big bad Dean Winchester got scared by a kitten was also memorable and hilarious. Today’s item is a Holy Cross Sweatshirt I never really wore in high school. It’s been sitting in a closet for a while and I had no use for it anymore. Don’t forget high school and college memories are not from what a shirt says. For me, this one was easy because I never wore it much anyways. However, even if you did wear it a lot before, and it serves no real purpose in your life, it may be time to declutter it!
