Sentimental value is what reminds us all of someone or something in our memories. The key word is memories, it’s the memory that matters, not the object. One of my goals this year is to try to eliminate some of my items around the house that exist for sentimental value only. In place of these types of items, I would take a picture, a digital version of the object. What’s the difference? Well, less space taken up in the closet or basement and in general your house and life. When you break down sentimental value, the only value is the memory and this can be kept without the actual thing. Memories are what truly matter and if the object is no longer serving a purpose in your house or life, it is no longer adding value to your life. Instead, it’s actually tying you down and cluttering your life. The next time you see a closet full of things or objects piling up in your basement, it’s time to ask yourself a question. What matters to you? Is it objects and things or is it the memories and your current life?
One of my examples of recent items with only sentimental value was my PS3.. I never used it anymore. I just kept it around because at one point in my life, I really enjoyed playing it with my friends and had many fond memories on it. However, it no longer adds value to my life and it no longer needs to collect dust in my house. Another example was my holy cross tennis hoodie and Shock the World T-shirt. I never wore them anymore but I kept them around for the memories. The memories are with you and can still be passed down without an object weighing down you and your future. What’s an item like this for you? Do you have the courage to declutter these types of items? It’s important to ask yourselves these questions, in my head I say let the the memories live on in your head and in the digital realm.

Today’s item is a striped shirt from Amalia. As you can see in the picture, it still has tags! She hasn’t worn it before and it has just been hanging out in our closet. Our hope is someone can appreciate this new shirt.
