“Trying to be happy by accumulating possessions is like trying to satisfy hunger by taping sandwiches all over your body.” – George Carlin
This post is for the beauty bloggers out there today. It’s good to have hobbies in your life, right? But what happens when your hobbies turn into hoarding? There’s a fine line between collecting and hoarding like TJ has brought up in one of our past blog posts. I wanted to reflect on my personal experiences with this that I’m still currently going through.
I love doing my makeup, and I love trying out new products. I consider this a hobby of mine. I have ended up with a lot of different makeup products though through the makeup subscription services, gifts, special makeup collaborations/limited edition makeup, and just plain old buying makeup. There are so many different makeup products and it’s easy to get caught up in them because you think to yourself, well, I don’t have that specific product or that specific brand so you trick yourself into thinking you need it since you don’t have it. However, you have six other concealers but somehow you tell yourself you need this specific one because it has great reviews and everyone has it. The problem is, you’ve been doing fine with those other six concealers (which is already a crazy amount to own) and now you think you need this other one as if it’ll be so much different. I fall into this trap way too often.
I recently went through a lot of my makeup and ended up throwing away a whole waste basket full of products (used as an item recently in another post.) I couldn’t believe how much I actually accumulated and how much I actually didn’t use. The funny part is, it’s been about a week or so since I got rid of these products and I don’t even realize they are missing, I don’t miss them at all. Now, I’m going to be more conscious of what I buy and only get makeup when I need it. Otherwise, I’ll end up with way too many products again and they’ll consume my vanity space and life! It’s easy to get swept away in the collecting since you are so passionate about your hobby. When your hobby ends up with you collecting too much, just take a moment to think about what you’ve accumulated and determine if you’ve gone a little overboard with it.
Item 097 of 360+
Today’s item is another video game which TJ plans to sell called Red Dead Redemption. TJ doesn’t plan on playing this game again, so why keep it around any longer? Hopefully someone else will enjoy it now.
