I found today’s quote after I wrote this post and it couldn’t be more accurate for what I wanted to get across and what my ideals are as well.
Left wishing you did something differently or been wanting to do something but never really got around to planning it? Well you better just go ahead and do it because life is too damn short. If you’ve been thinking about traveling but haven’t made the plans to do it yet, make it happen. Been thinking about calling a family member you lost touch with? Just do it, no matter what silly reason it could be that kept you from keeping in touch. It’s not worth it to wonder “what if” or “I could have done this differently” etc., because regret or guilt is not worth the sweat.
After losing someone close to me, my perspective has altered. I say altered instead of changed because I always believed that you should just make things happen if it’s you that’s required to make things to move forward. However, what has changed is my stubbornness and laziness to make certain things happen. Something bothering you? Fix it. Wish you hadn’t left things off with someone the way you did? Change it. Been wanting to plan a special night for your significant other? Plan it. You don’t want to be left with guilt that you hadn’t visited the places you wanted to, or kept in touch with the people you wish you had, or treated the people you love most as good as you should have. Why? Well, simply, because life is short and what was said for my brother, “Tomorrow is not a guarantee.” Live your life how you want to, not wondering how you’d like to.
