Day 57 – Disconnect

“Turn off your email; turn off your phone; disconnect from the Internet; figure out a way to set limits so you can concentrate when you need to, and disengage when you need to. Technology is a good servant but a bad master.” Gretchen Rubin

Disconnect. This will always be a common theme for me and it really is to help myself and hopefully help others along the way. The next two days I am going to try to disconnect from my phone. I tried an approach earlier in the year where I would make myself do push ups every time I checked social media. This worked for the temporary but was more of a fad and ended up fizzling out. This time I would like to take it more seriously because I know I spend too much time on social media and it’s purely instinctive. I don’t want to be on my phone nor do I want to be on social media when I’m on it but my fingers just do it and I get lost.

Here is my plan for the weekend, a 48-hour test. For starters, I will be deleting Tik Tok off my phone. This is a time dump of funny videos that are unnecessary to watch. In regards to all my other social media apps, I will not be going on them this weekend. You will still see two posts from Minimalism Everyday on the social sites of course, however, that is thanks to the connection via Word Press. I just want to see if I can take the time I usually spend on these sites and instead do something that can add more value to my life. What I would like to replace this time with is a plethora of productive things but my main focus for this weekend is reading. To be critical in an overall great year so far, the two things I still really need to improve on are less phone and more reading, hence my challenge for myself this weekend. Wish me luck, I think it will go well and I will be sure to update you on Monday.

Item 057 of 360+

Today’s item is one of Amalia’s old baseball caps. She got this on a family reunion trip to the beach but no longer wears it. She will keep the memories from the trip but leave the hat to someone new possibly.
