“The great solution to all human problems is individual transformation.” – Vernon Howard
Welcome again, it’s TJ and Wednesday which means it’s time for some warm wisdom. I was listening to the Minimalists podcast, my new go-to at the gym, and they were having a discussion about problems and solutions. I was intrigued because Joshua Fields Millburn was explaining his reasoning on why understanding the problem of something is more important than the solution itself. I don’t think this works as a rule that applies to everything, but I do think the meaning behind this is very important to discuss. So many want an answer to fix their problems, but really the best way to solve a problem is by understanding the problem. Learning the way to solve a problem is much more important than getting a solution.
This reminds me a lot of what we’re trying to accomplish in this 360 in 365 challenge. Amalia and I want to declutter our lives and so we decided we would give away or sell 360 items. Could we have done this in a month, a week, maybe even a day? Well yea I think so, and that would lead to the same result of decluttering 360 items in a year. But see, it’s not about that, it’s about getting a better and deeper understanding of the problem. By slowly decluttering, we are also slowly bettering ourselves and realizing one by one all the things we don’t need. It has helped us understand minimalism and has helped us truly stick to having less. I have heard from a wise man that doing something 21 times helps form a habit. The 21st day of our challenge is tomorrow which means we will soon be the proud owners of two new healthy habits, writing blog posts and decluttering our things as well as our lives.
Item 020 of 360+
Today’s item is a nice warm sweater from Amalia. We will be donating this item in hopes that someone new will be able to enjoy it. Also an update from yesterday. The blender for yesterday’s item was given to Amalia’s Dad who actually was in need of one. See, you never know who may be in greater need of things, things that are currently not in use and collecting dust in your home.
