Day 15 – Conquer the FOMO

It’s Friday! I’m in love. Hi friends, I hope you’re having a great day, it’s TJ. I don’t know who needs to hear this but I know I need to remind myself this from time to time. You can not do everything, nor should you. You can not have everything, nor should you. The fear of missing out, FOMO, is a real thing and I know it affects plenty of people. Whether it’s missing out on the newest item or not being included in an activity. Where does this feeling really come from? Simply put, it’s insecurity and it sucks, that’s never a good feeling but you are the only person who can fix it.

If it’s other people not including you in things you want to be included in, it’s on you. A line from the minimalists can help, “You can’t change the people around you but you can change the people around you”. You can’t change the way people are but you can change whether or not you spend your valuable time with them. Buying and consuming the newest and best things can become an endless trap, I have fallen for it multiple times. New phones, cars or that big fancy house may bring instant satisfaction, but it doesn’t bring happiness. This doesn’t mean you can’t go buy new things, but you have to try to think for yourself when you’re doing it. You can’t buy things based off of others telling you to on social media or based on advertisements specifically tailored to suck you in. Easier said than done, I have been slowly getting better with all of this and I hope you are too.

Before ending, I figured I would talk a little bit about a big purchase Amalia and I recently made at the end of last year. We bought a house but I could have never done it as confidently without reading Dave Ramsey’s book The Total Money Makeover. Anything that brings you into debt further is a big decision and it ties into minimalism so well. You buy less things which leads to less debt and happier living; striving for financial freedom while enjoying each day.

Item 015 out of 360+

Amalia’s black and blue shirt. Another item to donate, another item gone, so many more to go but one step at a time.
